History and position: In the heart of Emilia Romagna, Bologna has always been a place among the richest in Italy for history and culture, especially concerning to the Etruscan civilisation. The Villanovan culture (taking its name from Villanova, a borough a few kilometres from, where the first discoveries were made, in 1853) dating back to 9th century b. C., is in fact recognised as the earliest period of the Etruscan civilisation. The archaeological discoveries of Villanova reveal that settlements took place quite suddenly in the area, where several groups of Etruscan people from the Tyrrhenian Etruria moved, attracted by the fertility of the Po valley. Bologna, then named Felsina, controlled a vast territory full of little rural settlements and became an important centre of commerce between the Tyrrhenian area and northern Italy. The vestiges of the Villanova civilisation (and of the following domination) are kept at the Archaeological Museum of Bologna. Among them, the famous and precious Askos Benacci, (from the Greek term askos = leather bottle), a vase used for storing perfumes and ointments; the vase has the shape of a bull with a big rounded belly, a long neck, big curved bull horns and a handle in the shape of a horse ridden by a knight wearing his helmet and carrying a shield on his shoulders. On Sundays, Brunch is served from 12 to 2 p.m., while every first and last Friday of the month, special gastronomic evenings are organised with dishes belonging both to the regional and to the international cuisine traditions. Bar: The American Bar, located in the hall, is open from 10 a.m. to midnight and offers an intimate and soft atmosphere. Several times a year, we organise guided tasting of both vintage wines and distillates during the “Wine Bar”, but also of tea/infusion and flavoured hot chocolate during the “Afternoon Tea”. Every evening, piano bar from 7 p.m. to midnight.
